The NFL draft took place on April 24th this year. All 32 NFL teams took turns selecting college football players to add to their rosters to build a stronger team for the upcoming season. The draft is a very important day in the NFL, as the top college players move on to the NFL, and we see who our favorite teams decide to pick. But who were the very best players entering the draft? Who were the standout players at the top of every team’s list? Let’s take a look at this year’s three best college prospects.
First, there is the Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward. Ward is considered the best quarterback in this year’s draft and was drafted by the Tennessee Titans first overall. Cam Ward had a standout season this year for Miami, throwing 4,313 passing yards, 39 touchdowns, and only seven interceptions. Cam Ward led the Miami Hurricanes to a terrific 10-3 overall season record. In Ward’s 4 seasons as a Hurricane, he has shown that he is an excellent player and a great team leader, which has attracted the eyes of many NFL scouts. Overall, Cam Ward has shown much talent, hard work, and dedication to the game, earning him a top spot in the draft.
Next is Shedeur Sanders. Sanders plays quarterback for the Colorado Buffaloes. Sanders was a well-known person even before his college football career, as his father, Dion Sanders, was an all-star running back for the Detroit Lions in the 1990s. Dion Sanders retired many years ago and is now the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, where he trains his son and the rest of the Buffaloes team. Shedeur Sanders had outstanding statistics this season, boasting 4,134 passing yards, 37 touchdown passes, and 10 interceptions. His talent caught the attention of many NFL scouts who wished to draft him to their team. Sanders was drafted 144th overall by the Cleveland Browns. The Browns don’t have a reliable starting quarterback, so drafting Sanders was a sensible choice for the franchise.
Last is Travis Hunter, who also plays for the Colorado Buffalo. Travis Hunter is unique as he plays on offense and defense, both as a wide receiver and defensive back. As a wide receiver, Travis Hunter had 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns. As a defensive back, Hunter had 36 tackles and four interceptions. Although Hunter is an outstanding player, many NFL teams didn’t believe he could manage playing two positions at the NFL level. Despite this, the Jacksonville Jaguars drafted him 2nd overall. Travis Hunter has some incredible talent and is a rare player who can provide support in many areas for the Jags.
The NFL Draft is one of the most anticipated football events. It allows college players to fulfill their dreams of playing on an NFL team. But some of the best players stand out due to their extreme talent and skill! Others may be overlooked or be that rare find no one considered, like Brock Purdy.
