There has been a new addition to the school. Over Spring Break, the district built a sidewalk across the front lawn. The construction continued for about one week after Spring Break. The path has been a huge welcome for students needing to get from the gym side of the school to the main building.
The construction took about a week and a half, which caused temporary inconvenience during the rainy season. Before the sidewalk, if you had to walk from the blue tables to the rotunda, you would have to either take the unconventional route by going around or get your feet dirty in the grass and mud and walk across the lawn. Now, both of these problems are fixed, as you can walk across the sidewalk without any hassle.
Many students have opinions on the new sidewalk, with the majority appreciating the convenience of the new route.
Eighth-grader Ariana Asgharnia shared her thoughts on the new pathway, stating, “I think the new sidewalk was a good investment to keep kids off the grass so it grows healthier.” Another student, Avani Singh, an 8th grader, shared similar thoughts: “I think it may have been a good addition because many people could see the dead grass and people not caring. It also helps me get to class much faster with less traffic in the hallways. Although it may be a waste of money because I still see people walking on the grass instead of the sidewalk, it lost its effectiveness that way.”
With a school of over 1,600 students, it’s inevitable to have a crowded passing period. When a combination of 6th graders, 7th graders, and 8th graders are all trying to get to class, it gets hard to make your way across campus in merely four minutes. PE is the worst, though, and the new sidewalk helps to alleviate this problem. Now, students have multiple routes from PE to their other classes, limiting the hallway rush.
While some students feel that the sidewalk’s purpose is useless because students still walk on the grass, most students have positive feedback. The new sidewalk has given the campus a nicer look and provided everyone with a cleaner, easier way to get around during busy school days.
