On the second Sunday of every February, the annual Superbowl occurs. The Superbowl is a prestigious event that the National Football League championship game, otherwise known as the NFL, hosts their championship game The Super Bowl LIXl is played at a different venue each year, this year’s being at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. The Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles are playing on February 9th, 2025. One of the events that people enjoy during the Superbowl is the half-time show that consists of multiple musicians performing for the fans.
This year, the main performer was Kendrick Lamar for the Super Bowl LIX. Kendrick, age 37, is a popular rap artist and is well known for his song that gained acclaim in 2024, “Not Like Us”. Lamar says, “Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date,” in a statement. “And I’ll be there to remind the world why. They got the right one.” Kendrick’s most popular songs include “N95”, “squabble up”, and “tv off”, all from his GNX album.
Another famous artist performing alongside Kendrick is the world-famous SZA. SZA, or Solána Imani Rowe, age 35 is an American singer-songwriter. She has many well-liked albums and songs, including “Kill Bill” which quickly gained popularity in early 2023. SZA recently released a new album called “SOS DELUXE: LANA” and fans are hoping that she will perform it at the Superbowl.
SZA and Kendrick Lamar have collaborated on many of their songs. These popular songs include, “All the Stars”, “Luthur”, and “30 for 30”. Since Kendrick announced his performance at the Superbowl, fans have been blowing up on social media. According to billboard.com, users say, “I don’t usually watch the Super Bowl, but I’ll be watching for the Kendrick concert,” another added on X.
Fans also used this opportunity to bring Lamar’s rivalry with Drake into the picture, showing that Kendrick was given a chance to perform on stage and not Drake. “Love this! Can’t wait to hear Not Like Us on the world stage. Drake finna cry in the corner,” someone commented on the NFL’s X account.
The Superbowl is an exciting time of the year that fans look forward to. While some are excited about the actual game, many are looking forward to the performance by Kendrick and SZA.
