On March 2nd, the 97th Oscars took place. Families around the world gather together in their living rooms, a remote in one hand, and popcorn in the other. The Oscars are awards to celebrate amazing films and actors for their outstanding talent.
The Academy Awards, now known as the Oscars, were adopted by Louis B. Mayer. Mayer was the head of MGM and wanted to create the Oscars to advance the film industry. The Oscars trophy was designed by Cedric Gibbons and is called the Oscars due to Margaret Herrick, a former Academy Librarian. Margaret thought the statue looked a lot like her uncle Oscar, and because of that, the Academy Staff called the Award an Oscar.
This year, the Oscars were hosted by Conan O’Brien at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, Hollywood. Conan O’Brien is an American television host, comedian, actor, writer, and producer. He is known for hosting talk shows like Late Night with Conan O’Brien and The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien.
There were so many nominations, but only some won….

- Actress in a Leading Role: Mikey Madison in “Anora”

There are a total of 23 categories for the Oscars, but 5 of them stand out. Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Picture are the major awards handed out at the
Oscars. Throughout history, Walt Disney has won the most Oscars, with a record of 22 wins.
There were also various performances. Actresses Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo opened the Oscars with the popular song, “Defying Gravity” from Wicked. Other performances were held by Doja Cat, Lisa from Blackpink, Queen Latifah, and Raye.
Many speeches were made at the Oscars, with the winners expressing their feelings about winning an award. For example, Mikey Madison from the movie “Anora” gave a speech for winning the award “Best Actress” saying, “I grew up in Los Angeles, but Hollywood always felt so far away from me. So, to be here standing in this room today is really incredible.”
The Oscars have been around for a long time, a way for films to get the attention they deserve. Although some fans are disappointed in the winners, these films should still be celebrated for the hard work put into them.
