The Safety of Reusable Water Bottles

The+Safety+of+Reusable+Water+Bottles

Every year, plastic water bottles are killing over 1 million sea creatures. When the marine animals swallow the plastic, the plastic causes them to starve, gain internal injuries, or suffocate. Still, people decide not to use reusable water bottles and just stick to plastic. Most plastic bottles end up in the ocean, severely harming the environment.

According to Project Clean Water, a company that focuses on raising awareness about water pollution, “Only 23% of the water bottles get recycled and 32% of the plastic packaging pollutes the environment.” Some places have a separation between recycling and other garbage. Most likely, they get combined into one and get dumped into the ocean. This topic raises awareness about how using reusable items could really affect the planet.

As mentioned in the website, Korwater, a website that talks about using reusable water bottles, “…over 17 million barrels of oil [are] used to create more than 50 million plastic water bottles per year in the United States. If used for another purpose, that amount of oil could fuel 1.3 million cars for an entire year or power 190,000 homes.”

By using reusable water bottles, you’re helping the planet become a better place. On the website, Inspire Clean Energy, a company that talks about renewable items that you could use, shows, “ Every year, 15 million tons of plastic enter the sea at a minimum. And experts predict that plastic will outweigh fish in the ocean by 2050 unless we make a change.” If we start to use reusable water bottles it will not only save the ocean, but it will save humanity. This topic is barely ever brought up. People need to notice the importance of using reusable water bottles. Mr. Clay, a core and an Intro to Speech and Debate teacher, explains that people need to start using reusable water bottles more and that the plastic water bottles are harming/polluting the environment and the ocean. He feels that maybe he should have this talk about reusable water bottles with his students. If this problem continues, in the future, there would be a drastic change in the climate, and the wildlife population will start to decline majorly.

At the end of the day, if people start to use water bottles now or even in the future, the environment would be in a better place. Let’s start using reusable water bottles now before it’s too late.
