When Fallon students returned to school after summer break, they were greeted by both former and new teachers. One of these new teachers is Caitlin Yee, a 7th-grade science teacher with former teaching experience in 6th and 8th-grade science. Our Fallon community is glad to give a warm welcome, and Ms. Yee is proud to be a Fallon Mustang.
Although Ms. Yee is new to Fallon, she is a Dublin resident and attended Dublin High herself. Previously, she taught 6th- and 8th-grade science in Oakland while commuting from Dublin. She says she can now connect more closely with her students because she is familiar with Dublin.
When a science position opened at Fallon, she applied and completed the teacher-onboarding process. She says, “Fallon is close to home, and so I think wanting to be close to home, wanting to give back to the community that I’d grown up in and been part of, has been really exciting. So when there was a science position that opened up, I was like, Oh, I really hope that I can be at Fallon and give back.” Additionally, her commute is much shorter now that she teaches in one of the cities where she grew up and now lives.
Moving schools has been a huge transition for Ms. Yee. When she taught in Oakland, the entire school had the same number of students in one grade level as we do here. Learning students’ names and personalities is more challenging with larger classes. Even though it has been challenging, her experiences with the faculty and students have been wonderful so far.
One of her science students, Ishaan Singhal (7th grade), says, “She’s very positive and really fun to be around. She just has this fun aura coming from her.” He also adds, “I really hope that she’ll like coming to Fallon because this is her first year.”
Ms. Yee brings a breath of fresh air to our students as she joins us on campus. We hope that Ms. Yee enjoys her first year at Fallon and continues her love of science, becoming a beloved science teacher for years to come.
